Pattern:

Ribbing Bottom:

  • Chain one and work half double crochet slip stitches, always working into the back loop.
  • Repeat the step above for the required number of rows.

Body:

  • Chain 1 and then work one half double crochet for each row of ribbing along the edge of the ribbing.
  • Chain 1 and work into the back loop of each half double crochet stitch across, keeping your tension as loose as possible.

  • Make sure to end on a slip-stitch row.

Ribbing Top:

  • Insert your hook and chain 10.

  • Work a slip stitch into the next Stitch as well.
  • Turn your work, skip those two slip stitches, and work into the back loop.

Finishing:

  • Fold the legwarmer in half and seam on the right side using the mattress stitch with a long tail.
  • Weave in your ends.
  • Repeat all steps to create the second leg warmer.

Instructions:

  1. Start by creating a slip knot.
  2. Chain an even number in multiples of 4, with a minimum of 16 chains.
  3. Begin the first row with a half double crochet (hdc) into the third chain from the hook and continue with one hdc in each chain across.

Row 2:

  • Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch), turn your work, and hdc in every stitch across.

Row 3 (Cable Stitch Setup):

  • Begin with Alpine Stitch detail (alternating hdc and front post double crochet until you reach your stitch marker).
  • Insert stitch markers to set the limits for your cable stitch detail, generally centered on your work.
  • After the Alpine Stitch detail, continue with the cable stitch using front post treble crochets, working around the marked stitches.

Cable Stitch Detail:

  • Work in front post double treble crochets, skipping stitches as instructed in the video.
  • Create the twist portion for the cable stitch as described in the video tutorial.

Following Rows:

  • Continue with back loop slip stitch rows, alternating with the cable stitch pattern rows (repeating rows 3-6) until you reach the desired leg warmer length.
  • Once the cable stitch pattern has reached your desired length, work along the edge of your piece in single crochet, making sure to alternate between one and two sc in the side rows of the cable stitch pattern.

Finishing - Inner Thigh Portion:

  • Work in back loop slip stitch with decreases at the beginning of the row to shape the thigh portion until it fits your thigh.

Seaming:

  • Use an outside loop slip stitch seam to join the leg warmers together.

Cuff & Top Band:

  • Single crochet around both the bottom and top edges, then create a cuff and top band with additional chains and back loop slip stitches.
  • The cuff and top band are worked in back loop half double crochets, slip stitches for stretch, and seamed using the outside loop method.

Closure:

  • Finish by seaming the cuffs and top bands with slip stitches, then weave in all ends.

Easy Crochet Leg Warmers

Use this gradient-shaded crochet leg warmers tutorial to make a stylized and cozier addition to your winter wardrobe.

Materials

  • Marble chunky yarn, approximately 170g, or any suitable yarn you have
  • Crochet hook (size depending on your chosen yarn)

Steps

  1. Start with a slip knot.
  2. Decide how deep you want your ribbing; recommend six stitches deep.
  3. Chain seven (the seventh one is the turning chain).
  4. Yarn over into the sixth chain (second from your hook), pick up the back loop only and do a half-double crochet.
  5. Repeat the half-double crochet 6 times.

Next Row

  1. Do a turning chain, turn
  2. Start doing half-double crochets in the back loop only (remember to do 6).

Continue making rows until the ribbing is wide enough for your leg (this needs to take into consideration going over your ankle).

Join

  1. When you have done the necessary rows, chain one, turn, and join.
  2. Find the back loop of the first stitch and the sixth stitch on the other side and do a slip stitch. Repeat this for all the stitches.

Start Single Crochet Rounds

  1. Chain one and start a round of single crochets.
  2. Try to space your stitches evenly.
  3. Slip stitch to close the round.

Half Double Crochet Rounds

  1. Chain two and start a round of half double crochets.
  2. Slip stitch to close the round.

Start Double Crochet Rounds

  1. Chain two and start a round of double crochets.
  2. Slip stitch to close the round.

Continue the Pattern

  1. Repeat the sequence (single crochet round, half double crochet round, and double crochet round) 10 times or until your desired length is reached.

Starting Ribbing to Finish

  1. Chain seven and do your first half double crochet into the sixth chain.
  2. Continue half double crochet until you reach the tube, then slip stitch to attach.
  3. Chain one, turn, skip two stitches, and start half-double crochets in the back loop. Ensure you always do six stitches.
  4. Continue this until you reach where you started and can close the ribbing.

Closing up Ribbing

  1. Chain one, then slip stitch into the back loop of the first chain and the back loop of the opposite side.
  2. Continue this for all stitches to close up.

Cozy Crochet Leg Warmer Tutorial

Follow this video tutorial to make the coziest and cutest-looking white-colored crochet leg warmers by yourself in no time.

Materials

  • Yarn of your choice (in the tutorial, True Boo bamboo yarn by Lion Brand in white was used)
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook (for the body of the leg warmer)
  • 3.25 mm crochet hook (for the ribbed cuff)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Pattern Notes

  • The pattern is customizable and measurement-based, so it's important to measure against the leg for both length and width.
  • The stitch used for the body is referred to as an "almond stitch."
  • The cuff is created with ribbing.

Making

Body of Leg Warmer

  1. Create a loose chain that is a multiple of 8 + 5. This will account for the height of the leg warmer. Ensure to leave extra space for the ribbed cuff at both ends.
  2. Start with a slip stitch into the second chain from the hook and the next three stitches, totaling four slip stitches.
  3. Work four half-double crochets into the next four chains.
  4. Continue the pattern across the chain, alternating four slip stitches and four half-double crochets.
  5. Start each new row by chaining one and turning in your work.
  6. For the remainder of the body panel, work only in back loops.
  7. Alter the starting stitch of each alternating row between slip stitch and half-double crochet.
  8. Repeat this process until the piece can wrap comfortably around the widest part of your calf.

Ribbed Cuff (Top and Bottom)

  1. Switch to the smaller 3.25 mm crochet hook.
  2. Starting on one edge of the completed body panel, pull through a slip knot at the corner stitch.
  3. Chain one and single crochet evenly across the top edge of the body panel.
  4. For the ribbing, chain an even number for the cuff's desired length (20 was used in the tutorial), plus one extra chain for the turning chain.
  5. Single crochet back down the chain to the edge of the body panel.
  6. To secure the ribbing, slip the stitch into the top edge of the leg warmer. Use two slip stitches as the turning chain.
  7. Continue single crocheting in back loops only along the cuff.
  8. Work the ribbed cuff back and forth until it wraps around the top of the calf.
  9. Repeat these steps for the bottom cuff, though the tutorial suggests making the bottom cuff half the length of the top cuff's chain.

Seaming

  1. Fold the leg warmer lengthwise inside out, aligning the edges.
  2. Using a hook suitable for seaming (a 3.75 mm hook is used in the tutorial), begin to single-crochet the seam closed.
  3. Work all the way down, making sure to pick up stitches from both sides.
  4. Once you reach the end, chain one, cut the yarn, and pull it through to secure it.

Optional Bow Detail

  1. Create an i-cord using a 4 mm crochet hook.
  2. Chain 3, and work an i-cord to the desired bow length.
  3. Secure, cut, and weave in the ends.
  4. Thread the i-cord through the stitches near the top of the leg warmer and tie it into a bow.

Remember to weave in all ends. Repeat the entire process to create the second leg warmer. Customize it by changing the bow colors or using different trims like lace or ribbon.
