Materials you will need:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Warm Water
  • Sugar
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • Glad Cling Wrap
  • A jar

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Prepare the materials: Gather all of the mentioned supplies. Your trap is pretty eco-friendly and uses materials found in most households.
  2. Mix ingredients in the jar: Take your jar and add an appropriate amount of apple cider vinegar and warm water into it. Sprinkle some sugar into the mix. The exact quantities would depend on the size of the jar, but a good measure would be filling up the jar ¾th of its size with apple cider vinegar and water and a teaspoon or two of sugar. The intention here is to attract the flies, which are typically drawn to sweet and sticky substances.
  3. Add dish soap: Pour a few drops (about one to two teaspoons) of Dawn dish soap into the jar. The dish soap acts as a sticking agent that will prevent the flies from escaping the trap.
  4. Cover the jar: Using the Glad Cling Wrap, tightly seal the top of the jar. Make a few tiny holes in it- small enough for flies to enter but not large enough for them to escape.
  5. Place the trap: Finally, place your homemade fly trap in an area where you've noticed a lot of fly activity. Wait for the trap to do its magic.

Despite its simplicity, this homemade fly trap should effectively attract and trap flies, ultimately helping to reduce the insect nuisance in your space.

Please note that the mixture might need to be refreshed every few days for continued effectiveness.
